Celebrating Intelerad’s first 15 years

This month marks Intelerad’s 15th anniversary as a company – a significant milestone which we’re all quite proud of.

For those unaware of our company’s history, Intelerad was founded by our CTO Chris Henri, CIO Robert Cox and Chief Engineer Rick Rubin. The three of them were the core team behind a couple of Canada’s earliest large-scale PACS deployments, which took place at the two largest university teaching institutions in Montreal and Toronto in the mid-to-late 90s. I joined the team shortly after they made the decision to move to the private sector.bonhomme

A lot has changed since our first days as a company. When Intelerad first opened in January 2000, it was made up of a small team of five, based in Montreal and intent on making a difference in the world of medical imaging. Today, we’re a multi-national enterprise with nearly 275 employees, based in North America, Oceania and the UK, with a proven track record of developing innovative solutions and providing industry-leading support.

In terms of our customer base, we’ve partnered with leading medical imaging providers around the world, across all market segments. This includes large public and private hospitals, innovative ambulatory providers and massive teleradiology organizations, such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Teleradiology Program.

Developing long-term relationships with our customer base has allowed us to work in a collaborative manner to ensure their needs are always met. In fact, customer influence has played a role in the the development of Intelerad solutions that users enjoy and depend on each day.

While it’s nice to reflect on our achievements of the past 15 years, there is still a lot of work to do and we are by no means getting comfortable. In an industry that is constantly changing, now more than ever we need to ensure that we are developing the best solutions possible, so our customers can continue to thrive and deliver the highest quality patient care. We look forward to the challenge, and to serving our customers in the years to come.


Bringing our philosophy to the U.K. market

As you may have seen from this morning’s press release, today marks another milestone for Intelerad as we announced plans to expand our U.K. operations. We’re excited about this new chapter, which follows a period of success that we’ve experienced in the region through our existing customer base, and will ideally lead to the U.K. playing a larger role in our global operations.

One of the advantages of having a customer base already developed in the U.K. is that it provides us with a better understanding of the challenges facing public and private radiology organizations, including NHS Hospitals and Trusts.  bonhomme

The truth is, we’re an alternative to legacy PACS providers, not only in the solutions we provide, but in our philosophy as well. As opposed to fixating on financial results for the market or equity partners, our reason for being is to help organizations provide the highest possible levels of patient care in the most efficient way possible. It’s for this reason that we constantly look at ways to improve the solutions we build and the support we provide – so we can deliver the best possible customer experience to organizations who aim to perform at the highest level.

This philosophy means that we are also selective in who we choose as employees. While this can create staffing challenges at times, it enables us to maintain a team that is both highly-talented and willing to go the extra mile. It also means that we can trust our staff to think a little “outside of the box” when deploying our solutions  to help customers achieve their goals – a level of flexibility that not every solution provider can deliver.

In sticking by this ideology for the past 14 years, we’ve built a significant list of accomplishments. On top of being named as the top ambulatory PACS on the market seven times, we’ve also won awards for our workflow solutions and have received a great deal of recognition for the services and support we provide. We’ve also grown organically, with our staff now surpassing 250 people, and our customer base ranging from small imaging centres to large hospitals across the U.K., North America and Oceania.

We’re looking forward to applying our philosophy to a wider U.K. market, and providing solutions, services and support that will take your operations to the next level. Recognizing Intelerad’s Employees

Since we first established Intelerad in 1999, our number one asset has been our people. There’s no question that we’ve been fortunate enough to work with some incredibly talented and hard-working individuals; those who have continually demonstrated vast amounts of creativity, technical knowledge, and enthusiasm. It’s these traits within our team that have helped establish us as a leader in radiology solutions.

Today at Intelerad, we held our Employee Awards Ceremony, an annual event that I always look forward to, as it provides the opportunity to recognize those who go beyond the call of duty, surpass expectations, consistently put in strong performances, and make our company a great place to work.

We first introduced the awards a few years back, and they quickly became a mainstay. For each category, the winners are nominated by their peers and their contributions are then described by their manager at the ceremony. In listening to the efforts and contributions of those who were honored, it is without question that they are the kind of people that you want to work with.

What is almost more impressive, is that the winners stand out amongst an incredible pool of talent. For that we are truly fortunate. We are very selective with who we hire, which may not make our recruiters’ lives easier, but certainly pays off when you assess the quality of our personnel.

As I sign off, I’d like to congratulate today’s award winners once more. I can assure you that your efforts don’t go unnoticed and are truly appreciated.

Happy Holidays to our Customers

As this year comes to an end, I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of our customers a happy holiday season and all the best for 2013. As a company, the past 12 months have been quite exciting for us, with the launch of new solutions and the expansion of our global footprint – major accomplishments which could not have been possible without you.

When we launched Intelerad in 1999, our goal was to provide advanced technology and industry-leading services and support to our customers. As we’ve grown, we’ve worked hard to maintain our high standards, which has helped us develop close relationships with our customer base. These relationships are something that we value highly, and have played an instrumental role in the evolution of our company.

In terms of solutions, our customer base has been forthright in providing feedback on our solutions and openly discussing their wants and needs in terms of radiology solutions. This past year, in response to the information customers provided, we launched three new solutions – Flow™ Enterprise Diagnostics Solution, InteleConnect Clinical Hub™ and Nuage Disaster Recovery Services. These solutions signify a new era of radiology solutions, where workflow, communications and data recovery are playing increasingly important roles in the day-to-day functions of radiology groups. We’re excited about the launch of these solutions and look forward to hearing your thoughts on them.

Our customer relationships have also played a key role in our company’s growth, which includes the opening of new customer sites on multiple continents year after year. In part, new customers have been keen to deploy our solutions due to the feedback you’ve provided analysts, such as KLAS (which resulted in our sixth straight #1 ranking PACS for ambulatory care), as well as the glowing recommendations that have been provided to radiology groups and departments interested in our solutions. For this we are truly grateful.

Looking back on the past 12 months

At Intelerad, our calendar tends to revolve around RSNA – and like New Year’s, it’s a good time to reflect on the past year. For me, what stands out is our continued evolution from a PACS company to a complete radiology solutions provider.

In terms of growth, we’ve also managed to greatly expand our global footprint over the past year – engaging new talent, opening offices on multiple continents and growing our customer base to include even more hospitals and imaging centers.

On the product side, this year we continued to build on our award-winning IntelePACS solution and brought InteleRIS to market here in the U.S.  We also expanded our portfolio with innovative solutions, such as our Flow Enterprise Diagnostics Solution and InteleConnect Clinical Hub, which were released last month. We also made our first foray into the cloud with Nuage™ Disaster Recovery Services™.

Despite our rapid growth, as a company that started out in a hospital, we’ve remained true to our original desires of providing industry-leading solutions and support. As challenging as our industry is, our people continue to enjoy the challenge of solving problems.  That in itself is rewarding and our greatest differentiator.
